Olde Town/Gateway Improvement Activity Timeline (Spring 2018)

City Council Resolution 20-049 adoption of the Design+Aesthetic Incentive Program (2020)

In the Fall of 2016, the Fountain Urban Renewal Authority (FURA) issued a RFQ to elicit proposals from qualified consultants toward the creation of design standards and guidelines in the City of Fountain’s Olde Town and US 85 Gateway districts.

The US 85 Gateway and Olde Town districts provide an extremely important first impression factor for the City. Redeveloping, revitalizing and creating design standards for these districts facilitates an environment for future investment, development and growth while maintaining the small town, unique atmosphere that the City of Fountain embodies.

THK and Associates was awarded the project in April 2017. The consultant will formulate design aesthetic standards for applicability to commercial structures and public space. Awareness is to-be paid to transitionary appearance from the I-25 interstate highway to the historic eclectic Olde Town environment. The design aesthetic standards should consider the 2014 Olde Town Revitalization Plan and the 2009 US 85 Gateway Redevelopment Plan  and merge all elements for a cohesive appearance between the two districts.

Project "Mission Statement" - To formulate design and aesthetic standards (guidelines) for commercial structures and public space within the Fountain Olde Town and U.S. 85 Gateway districts.

Two project kick-off meetings were held on June 6, 2017; city departments and 13-member Steering Committee. THK's project findings were presented to City Council on December 12, 2017.
