In the fall of 2018, FURA concluded a single site purchase located at the epicenter of a community Town Center rebirth; 1905 historic dwelling, known as Woodman Hall. The purchase has a purposeful intent to preserve, repurpose and revitalize the historic asset for community accessibility. Per its origin significance, this historic asset has always been a center of community gathering in the forms as a General Store, Missionary Meeting Hall, Performance Theatre, Butcher Shop, Post Office, Movie Theater, Roller Rink, as well as residential housing by the mid-1980's.

The Woodmen of the World (W.O.W) fraternal organization erected and occupied the building, per the embossed plaquard located on the south face wall of the building.  W.O.W. places of congregation are affectionately known as "Woodman Hall, as established by the Woodmen of the World."  (property historical record)

Due to its natural allure to the community, in December 2018, FURA hosted an Inaugural Open House event at the historic property.  Seventy-two attendees representing seven community agencies self-toured the property and networked during a two-hour dining service held onsite.  FURA opened the floor for attendees to share rehabilitation use ideas, which included:

  • Community/Rental Hall
  • Micro Brewery
  • Bed and Breakfast with Ground Floor Common Area
  • Town Market Place
  • Entertainment/ Billiard Hall
  • Business Incubator with Coffee Shop
  • Movie Theater
  • Grocery Store
Naturally, some of these ideas would be derived from a private investor entity vs. under public entity ownership; but a great spectrum of ideas put forth on behalf of the property’s potential of reuse.  FURA has continued to host a series of open houses to convene community discussion on behalf of small business fulfillment and beyond!

Vision Planning

The summer of 2019, FURA on boarded Tremmel Design Group to perform a historical assessment of the property and to provide advisory services on behalf of property restoration and revitalization Vision.  The historical assessment period was completed as of spring 2020.

As the geolocation of the property is highly visible and at the epicenter of a Town Center rebirth under the City of Fountain Planning and Public Work divisions, the following property transitional activities occurring within and/or around Woodman Hall thru fall of 2024.  These activities will included:

Public ADA Accessibility Compliance

The acquired condition of the property precludes ANY FORM of Public Use until ADA Accessibility Compliance, Climate Controls, and Public Restrooms measures had been completed.

By the fall of 2024, the property has completed ADA safety compliant improvements and new restroom addition was completed by Nunn G.C. under the advisory services of FURA and Tremmel Design Group. As the building sits with a north and south facing exterior, there were perinate climate control units needs to handle the stark contrast of 20 degrees shifts among the N/S  unit walls.

The Hall's second floor earned its COO of small business occupancy in spring of 2019 with upgraded public safety compliance with private entry access separate from the Hall's ground floor area. All rental  units are fully occupied by the following businesses ZENner Yoga Studio, Elysian Fields Therapeutics, and Fountain Hair Society Salon.  To learn more, please visit our Small Business Roster.

Town Center Improvements

As mentioned prior, the property's geolocation is highly visible and at the epicenter of a Town Center rebirth, FURA is working with public agency partners to leverage capital improvement investments through out several intersections in and around Main and Ohio.  Whereas, funding sources have been identified, applied for, and/or awarded by the State of Colorado and El Paso County to pair with city budgeted projects and FURA funding to avail intersection improvements in the realm of:
  • Directional pedestrian crosswalk
  • ADA level sidewalk and ramps
  • Streets resurfacing
  • Right of Way beautification
  • LED street lighting
These improvements transpired during the 2019-2023 (COVID-19) timeframe.

Long-term Vison

Per the historical assessment completed by Tremmel Design Group ,the property is stewarding renovations towards its origin of use for small businesses tenant occupancy to best serve the growing community of Fountain.  In addition, the State of Colorado EDC designated the property as an Enterprise Zone Community Contribution Program (EZ-CCP) which allows for a 5YR equity-capital campaign towards the economic vitality of a historic property adaptive reuse revitalization asset; serving as a catalyst for downtown Fountain. Whereby, economic goals include increasing local jobs, growing the sales tax base for the City, and addressing the lack of food access in the Olde Town district.  The EZ-CCP has launched, click here to learn more.
